Army chief Bipin Rawat criticized protesters for violence under the guise of CAA

Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat criticized protesters who carried out violent protests over the citizenship act, saying “leaders are not those who lead masses in arson and violence”.

The opposition party, including the Congress, took a dig at Army Chief, who is scheduled to retire on December 31 as Army Chief, for making comments on Political issues.

“Leaders are not those who lead people in inappropriate directions, as we are witnessing in a large number of university and college students, the way they are leading masses of crowds to carry out arson and violence in our cities and towns. This is not leadership.” the Army chief said at a health summit.

He further said, “A leader is one person who leads you in the correct direction. Gives you the right advice and then ensures that you care for the people you live.”

The protest erupted in metro cities including Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai, after the Citizenship bill was passed by both houses and got the assent of President of India. Protesters came on street and set trains on fires. They blocked railway tracks and set fire to buses. Many were injured during the clash between protesters and police.

Chief Bipin Rawat added, “The citizenship Amendment Bill was passed despite reservations from a couple of northeastern states. It would not be hard to guess that some hard decisions on left-wing extremism may be on the anvil after this,”

Protesters pelted stones at cops during the clash between protesters and police. Over a dozen died and many were injured during the clash in UP.

Congress senior leader Digvijaya Singh took to Twitter to attack Gen Bipin Rawat, “I agree General Saheb but also Leaders are not those who allow their followers to indulge in  Genocide of Communal Violence. Do you agree with me General Saheb?”
