Kerala Cop hurls lathi at a biker, he rams into a car and suffers severe head injury

Cops across the nation hit the headlines for all the right reasons. Some are setting a great example by working beyond the call of duty to cover an uncovered dangerous manhole while other cops are taking immediate action against the wrongdoers by arresting them immediately after they receive a complaint from the victim. However, in a recent incident, a cop in Kerala set a bad example as he hurled lathi at a bike Rider and after which he collided with a car and suffered a severe head injury.

Civil Police Officer by the name of Chandramohan was on duty and was checking vehicles when he asked a man named Siddique to stop, but he reportedly didn’t listen and tried to escape from the spot. However, in an attempt to stop him from going away, the police officer took an extreme step by hurling lathi at him. Siddique lost his balance and accidentally rammed his motorcycle into a car which was coming from the opposite direction and picked up a severe head injury.

Siddique’s father told news agency ANI that the police took his son to a nearby taluk hospital in the wake of the accident, and left him there. “The hospital authorities informed me about the accident,” he said.

After this, the locals staged protests, disrupted traffic and demanded strict action against the police officer. Meanwhile, Kerala DGP Loknath Behra instructed Kollam superintendent of police to file a criminal case against the police officer who threw the lathi at Siddique.

“I have instructed the district police chief to register a criminal case against the accused. If any such case comes up, the district police chiefs will be held responsible,” DGP Behra said.

Kollam Superintendent of Police (rural) Harishankar added that the cop has been suspended till the investigation is on. “A detailed enquiry has been ordered. It is being carried out by two DSP-rank officers. We are also collecting the CCTV visuals to know the sequence of events. As per the eyewitness accounts, the bike rider lost balance after a lathi was thrown at him,” he said.

Besides Chandramohan, two other officers who were a part of the vehicle-checking drive were also transferred on Thursday.
