In yet another shocking incident in India, a 25-year-old law student was kidnapped and then gang-raped by 12 men at gunpoint at a brick kiln located near Ranchi’s VIP zone this week. As per a report in Times of India, 12 arrested men have confessed to the crime.

According to the FIR lodged by the victim at Kanke police station, the incident took place around 5.30 pm on November 26 when she was with a friend at Sangrampur area in the city. Then two men in motorcycle kidnapped the victim at gunpoint after scaring away her friends, police confirmed.

The high-security spot is barely 4 km away from her law college campus and 10 km from the chief minister’s official residence. The locality also has residences of the DGP, chief justice of the Jharkhand high court and the leader of the opposition, the TOI report added.

The motorbike had reportedly rain out of petrol at some distance when the 2 men phoned their friends and immediately asked them to come with a car. They then drove to the brick kiln and gang-raped the innocent woman.

The victim then managed to reach the police station the next morning and lodged an FIR, after which police arrested the 12 accused after preliminary investigation.

“They were booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code, SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Arms Act. A car, a motorcycle, a pistol, eight mobile phones and the cellphone snatched from the victim have been seized from the possession of the accused,” a police statement added.

India is still carrying an unwanted record which we people are aware of. With so many records to boast about India’s development, their failure to stop rape cases is haunting like hell. Rape is the fourth most common crime in India. The level of rape cases in our nation rose alarmingly. It is learnt that most of the rape cases were committed by someone known to the victim.
