Shiva Thapa, Pooja Rani win Gold for India at Boxing Olympic Test event

Gone are the days when Indian sportspersons hardly used to win medals for the nation. It seems that winning medals is quite an easy task for the players. They enjoyed massive success in the international stage.

India might not have a significant fan-following in Boxing category but our boxers are setting a great example by putting on a good show in the ring by defeating toughest opponents. Shiva Thapa (63kg) and Pooja Rani (75kg) made the whole nation proud as they bagged gold at the Olympic Test Event for Boxing.

Ashish (69kg) settled for silver medal as India ended their campaign on a sensational note.

Four-time Asian medallist Shiva Thapa had outclassed Kazakhstan’s national champion and Asian bronze winner Sanatali Toltayev 5-0 to get hold of the yellow metal.

Former Asian Games bronze medallist Pooja Rani won another gold for India as she got the better of Australia’s Caitlin Parker.

Tough luck Ashish (69kg) who lost to Japan’s Sewon Okazawa in the final and had to settle for a silver medal.

Previously on Wednesday, former junior world champion Nikhat Zareen (51kg), Simranjeet Kaur (60kg), Sumit Sangwan (91kg) and Vahlimpuia (75kg) lost their semi-final bouts and settled for bronze.

Why do we fail to praise our athletes who do not play cricket? We take time to praise cricketers but don’t bat an eye on the ones who win medals for India. Why is it so? Let’s learnt to give due credits to the players who give their heart out playing for India.
