Customer in Hyderabad refuses food from Swiggy delivery man because he is a ‘Muslim’

A couple of months ago, a massive social debate started with a Zomato user’s controversial demand for cancellation of his food order just because a ‘non-Hindu’ rider was delivering it.

However, Zomato’s sharp reply to the demand with a message – “Food doesn’t have a religion. It is a religion” later got into another controversy, with multiple users accusing the food delivery app of ‘Hypocrisy’ and ‘Double standards’ for tagging certain food choices like ‘Halal’ and ‘Jhatka.’

Recently, a Swiggy customer in Hyderabad’s old city area has been in the news for the wrong reason. As per the TOI report, the customer who had ordered a dish on food delivery app Swiggy, refused to accept the order when it actually came through a Muslim boy.

“Heights of stupidity! Hindu man from #Hyderabad orders Chicken 65 from Grand Bawarchi, owned by a Muslim, but abuses Muslim delivery boy of @swiggy_in
for the order being less spicy. @amjedmbt asks Swiggy to register a case against Ajay Kumar,” a user tweeted.

Soon after this ordeal, the Muslim delivery boy went to the police station to lodge a complaint against the customer.

The report further states that the customer identified as Ajay Kumar from Aliabad, ordered a snack item- Chicken-65, from Grand Bawarchi restaurant at Falaknuma, through Swiggy delivery platform.

In the order, Ajay Kumar wrote: ‘Very less spicy. And, please select Hindu delivery person. All ratings will be based on this.’

But when Ajay received a call from a delivery boy- Suleman, it was a different story altogether. He starting hurling abuses at Suleman when he received a call enquiring his location of delivery.

After the controversy, Amzadullah Khan who is the president of a political party Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), expressed shock saying, “How can the food be rejected based on religion?”

According to HT report, Ajay, while speaking to the Swiggy customer care added that he doesn’t mind losing the Rs 95 as cancellation fee but he would never in his life accept an order from a Muslim man.

However, Swiggy has not yet responded to this incident.
