Watch: Train Driver stops just in time to save an Elephant crossing the track

Human beings are causing so many problems to the animals. One of those problems which animals face is they get hit by high-speed trains while they are ambling across the railway tracks in the country.

Not a long ago, a video of an elephant being almost crushed under a train in West Bengal started doing the rounds on social media. People also questioned authorities’ preparedness to protect the wildlife that crosses rail tracks to get from one side of the forest to another.

IFS officers mentioned how it frequently happened and animals like elephants got struck by a speed train and died consequently.

However, there are some loco drivers who are alert in their duty and take all possible measures to save and protect wildlife when they can.

The official Twitter account of Alipurduar Division, N.F.Railway tweeted a video with the caption that reads: “Today morning at 8.30 hrs, #AlertCrew of 55726 Dn Sri Uttam Barua & D.D.Kumar suddenly noticed that a Wild Elephant was walking along the track at Km 71/7 betn NKB- CLD & stopped the train immediately with Emergency brake. @RailNf @wti_org_india @RailMinIndia,” DRM APDJ tweeted.

In the video that spread like wildfire, one can see the train stopped in its tracks, patiently waiting for the elephant to safely cross over to the other side of the forest.

It would have been a different story altogether had it not been for train driver’s alertness.

Someone even started a change.org petition with the name ‘Save North Bengal Animals from Train Accidents’.

‘Year after year, we witness the animals getting smashed, run over by running trains in different stretches of North Bengal(Northern and North-eastern part of West Bengal) because of our ignorance and negligence’.
