Army officer Ponung Doming scripted history as she has become the first woman from the state of Arunachal Pradesh to be made a proud ‘Lieutenant Colonel’ in the Indian Army.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to official Twitter handle to congratulate Doming on her success as she is the first woman Army officer from Arunchal Pradesh to be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on the Indian army.
“A proud moment for all of us … Major #PonungDoming creates history. She is first woman Army officer from #Arunachal to be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the #IndianArmy,” Khandu tweeted.
Talking about her family background, Pomung Doming is the eldest daughter among 4 siblings of Olom Doming and Jimmi Dai Doming from GTC, Pasighat under East Siang district
“Ponung Doming is the eldest daughter among four siblings of Olom Doming and Jimmi Dai Doming from GTC, Pasighat under East Siang district. Ponung Doming also made the Arunachal Pradesh proud becoming the first-ever Army Major from the state,” said a report by Northeast Now.
Ponung Doming has previously been a part of ‘UN peacekeeping mission’ at Democratic Republic of Congo representing India.
She announced arrival in the Indian Army in the year 2008 and then joined the Officers Training Academy, Chennai.
Ponung Doming, after her joining as Lieutenant in September 2008, rose to the prestigious rank of Major within 4.5 years.
