16-yr-old boy wins Gold for India at World Shooting Championships!

It is true to the fact that young Indian athletes are showcasing sheer exuberance across all the events and the 16-year-old boy, Hriday Hazarika has started to find some solidity in the shooting sport.

Hriday scripted history as he clinched the gold medal in the junior men’s 10m air rifle event at the ISSF World Championships in Changwon, South Korea. It was indeed a thrilling and nail-biting shoot off and Hriday pulled off the ropes from the jaws of the defeat to settle for the top medal. He did the entire nation proud.

Hriday was so impressive at the world stage and it was his turn to show what he is capable of holding the nerves in the tough competition.

Both the competitors Hazarika and Iran’s Amir Neokounam ended up tied at 250.1 points, taking the intriguing final into a shoot-off. Both had a chance to create a world record but missed but it by a whisker 0.1 point.

The first shot in the nerve-racking final shoot-off decided the gold medal with a difference of just 0.1 point. Hazarika shot 10.3 and Nekounam managed to get 10.2.
Hazarika shot some terrific final few shots to escalate from the fourth position to first before taking the final showdown into a shoot-off. Interestingly, he was the only Indian to qualify for the final by chipping in with a great score of 627.3
