Former Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley was closely associated with the sport. Jaitley, during his contract at DDCA, is credited with renovating the whole stadium into a modern facility, expanding its capacity to accommodate more supporters besides constructing grandeur dressing rooms.

Talking about the development of the stadium, current DDCA Chairman Rajat Mishra threw light on Arun Jaitley that his incredible support and motivation gave the much-needed boost for Indian players like Kohli, Gambhir, Nehra, Pant who made India proud.

“It was Arun Jaitley’s support and encouragement that players like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Rishabh Pant and many others could make India proud.”

The DDCA has, however, clarified that the stadium has been named after as Arun Jaitley Stadium, but the ground will be known as Feroz Shah Kotla.

“A clarification from the DDCA president: The stadium has been named as Arun Jaitley Stadium. The ground will continue to be called the Feroz Shah Kotla,” Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) updated on their Twitter account.

The grand ceremony is scheduled to take place next month when the stadium will be renamed.
