Ex SBI PO becomes Managing Director of World Bank, here is her life story

Anshula Kant who is the Managing Director, State Bank Of India, has been roped in as the managing director and chief financial officer of the World Bank.

With her new role as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer, Kant will now be responsible for the supervision of financial reporting, risk management, and working closely with the World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva on the mobilisation of International Development Association (IDA) of WB and other financial resources, reports Indian Express.

“I am very pleased to appoint Anshula Kant as World Bank Group Managing Director and CFO. Anshula brings more than 35 years of expertise in finance, banking, and innovative use of technology through her work as CFO of the State Bank of India,” World Bank President David Malpass was quoted as saying.

She joined State Bank of India in the year 1983 as a probationary officer and slowly pushed her way into being the Managing Director. She worked as the Chief General Manager of Mumbai SBI and was Deputy MD of Operations for National Banking Group. She has been a MD and member of the Board since September 2018.

Through her career in SBI, her teammates recognised her for hard work, perseverance and humility. As CFO of SBI, Kant managed $38 billion of revenues and total assets of $500 billion, as per the reports from the Indian Express.

With prime responsibility for the SBI’s Risk, Compliance, and Stressed Asset Portfolio, Kant chaired the creation of investment opportunities while empowering risk management throughout the bank itself. She has also held several positions across the organization and then helped steer a diverse array of leadership challenges, the bank added in a statement.

She also extended her work as the CEO of the Singapore unit of the bank and played a significant role in launching retail operations for the bank in Singapore.

Hailing from Rourkee, Kant did her bachelor’s degree in economics from Lady Shri Ram College and a master’s from the Delhi School of Economics. She then moved to Varanasi after marriage. Her son is now based in the US and daughter is in Singapore.

Apart from bank work, Kant takes her time off some Hindustani classical music as per FE report, she is able to finish off work soon as she watches a good movie or a Hindustani musical concert.
