Grandson of Freedom Fighter Udham Singh commits suicide due to loan debt

The grandson of a revolutionary freedom fighter late Udham Singh, Gurdev Singh Sandhu who is a farmer of Chahal village of Faridkot district committed suicide by hanging himself at his tubewell due to loan debts.

For the unversed, Revolutionary Udham Singh went to London to take vengeance on Jallianwallan Bagh massacre and then shot General Michael O’Dwyer, who was the Governor of Punjab during the tragedy, at a close distance.

According to the sources, Gurdev was under a massive debt of Rs 25 lakh and because of his debt, he was under immense pressure and constant depression and then also felt ignominy that being a grandson of a great freedom fighter, he led such a bad life.

SHO Mukhtair Singh arrived the spot and began investigations. He said that body had been sent for postmortem examination at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot.

Police have also started formal proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
