No hands by birth- Kerala girl wrote Class X exam with legs, scored A+ in all subjects

You don’t need a magic wand to become successful in life. All that you need is the willingness to succeed, the will to do things, the ability to move on with grit and determination, hard work and perseverance to try even in tough times.

If you have all the qualities, you can accomplish your goal.

Devika was born without hands but that didn’t stop her from touching the pinnacle of success.

Devika and her parents do not seem to think she has done anything beyond the bounds of possibility in scoring A+ in all subjects for her 10th-grade exams this year.

Hailing from Malappuram, Kerala, Devika has written all her exams with her feet.

“It’s been like that since birth,” says Devika’s dad Sajeev who is a senior civil police officer in Thenhipalam police station, Malappuram.

Devika was also felicitated by Kerala Police Chief Lokanath Behera. It is her sheer will power and mental strength that drove her to succeed, Lokanath Behera said, while honouring Devika.

Her parents admitted that their daughter Devika is an average student.

Thanks to Devika’s mother Sujitha (homemaker) who got Devika to hold the pencil between her feet and learn the alphabet when she was prepared to join the school.

Devika couldn’t have asked for better guidance and assistance from her teachers who were always there to help her combat challenges.

“Teachers at her school helped too, of course. They have all come to visit her after the results were out,” says Sujitha.

Devika can write in Malayalam, English and Hindi. She completed her 10th standard from the Chandan Brothers Higher Secondary School in Vallikunnu and has now chosen ‘Humanities’ for Class XI.

“I like Social Studies,” says Devika, who has very little to speak about her achievements. She likes to sing as well.
