SSC MTS Paper 1 2019 exam is scheduled to be held in the months of August and September. Your preparation for the same needs to be robust as the competition is going to be cut-throat. SSC MTS Paper Pattern in a Nutshell
SSC MTS examination consists of two levels of exams – Paper 1 and Paper 2, followed by a skill test.
- Paper 1 is an online based examination, where 100 questions are asked from four sections. These sections are General Intelligence and Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, General English, and General Awareness. Each of these sections carries 25 questions. The exam duration is 90 minutes.
- Paper 2 is a descriptive test, for which the candidate is eligible only if he/she qualifies paper 1. In this paper, the candidate is required to write an essay or a letter. The word count will be mentioned in the question. The duration of this examination is 30 minutes.

General Intelligence and Reasoning

Space Visualization, Visual Memory, Decision Making, Venn Diagram, Figure Concepts, Water Image, Mirror Image, number series, and Matrix.
Numerical Aptitude
Quantitative Aptitude by R S Agarwal covers all the concepts as well as contains several sample questions for you to practice. The questions asked in this section are basic and not too difficult, and therefore, if you are in regular practice, you can easily fetch a decent score in this section.
Important topics
Number System, Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Average, Mensuration, Trigonometry, Time and Distance, Coordinate Geometry, Time and Work, and Data Interpretation.
English Language
If you have a good hold over grammar and vocabulary, you can easily get a very good score in this section. Books such as Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis will help you in strengthening your vocabulary and the book, English for General Competition will help you in familiarizing yourself with the question pattern.
Important topics
Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Idioms and Proverbs, Sentence Improvement, Error Correction, and Phrase Replacement.
General Awareness
There are two parts in this section – static GK and current affairs. For preparing the static part, you need a good reference book, such as Static General Awareness by A P Bhardwaj, which covers all the static Gk concisely. For the current affairs, you need to be regular in your preparation and keep yourself updated about the latest happenings.
Important topics
Scientific Discoveries, Sports, India and its Neighbours, History, Polity with special emphasis on Indian Constitution, Geography, Economics, and Books and Authors.
Important Tips to Clear SSC MTS
- The level of the exam is comparatively easy so you should not worry about the tough questions. But, what is important is covering the entire syllabus so that you do not have to leave any question in the exam.
- There is no shortcut to success. If you want to brag a seat, you have to be regular with your preparation. Make a timetable where every topic is covered and devote at least 3-4 hours every day.
- Go through the previous years’ sample papers to know the pattern of the questions. This will help you to know the important areas from where maximum questions are asked.
- After you have finished your syllabus, start giving mock tests. Giving mock tests on a regular basis is a must.
