In a horrific incident, 37-year-old software engineer allegedly murdered his wife and three kids in Ghaziabad, police confirmed the news on Monday.
The incident happened on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when Sumit Kumar served sedative-laced drinks to his wife Anshu Bala (32), son Prathimesh (5), daughter Akriti and son Arav (twins aged 4) after which he didn’t hesitate to take an extreme step as he slit each of their throats, said City SP Shlok Kumar.
The dead bodies were found 22 hours following the incident on Sunday, after a message from Kumar in his family WhatsApp group confessing to the killings, said the SP.
Kumar who is a native of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand tied the knot with Anshu Bala in 2011. He actually became depressed after losing his job in December and then was in debt, he admitted.
Wife Anshu Bala was teaching in a nearby school and giving tuition and her father was helping him in a bid to meet expenses.
However, on Sunday, Sumit Kumar posted the video explaining how he killed his wife and kids, said the SP. He also said he would commit suicide for which he had bought poison in the nearby medical store.
The police also initiated a probe for Kumar and his phone is not reachable, they said.
The police and the drugs department took a decisive step to seal the medical store and also arrested its owner for allegedly selling potassium cyanide to Kumar.
The medical store’s licence was expired two years ago, the SP added in a statement.
