World Bank President impressed by dedicated work of Indian PM, Says “Historic”

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim felicitated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after India enhanced its ranking significantly in the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ index. He also mentioned India’s jump in rankings as a “historic, and unprecedented achievement”, PTI quoted as PMO’s statement as saying.

In a telephonic conversion, Yong Kim said that it is remarkable that a country more than 1.25 billion people achieved a rise of 65 ranks in just a short span of four years. He then promised World Bank’s “unflinching and continued support” to India’s endeavours on ease of doing business.

The World Bank president attributed the achievement to the ‘constant commitment and leadership’ of PM Narendra Modi to a great extent.

Talking about the rise in rankings, Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal praised freedom-icon Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as ‘pro-business and pro-trade’ and added that by the end of the five-year term PM Modi led BJP government, India will certainly be among the top 50 in the ease of doing business rankings.

“In just four years, we are in the top 80 and I have full confidence that by the end of the fifth year, we will be among the top 50 in the Ease of Doing Business rankings. I want to tell you that even Sardar Patel had imagined this about 70 years ago. Sardar Patel used to tell people that we should work hard towards making it easy for business and trade,” said Goyal.
