Son of petrol pump worker cracks UPSC, becomes IAS officer at the age of 22

Pradeep Singh always had the urge to become successful in life considering the family circumstances. The moment he realised about his parents’ struggles, it was the day he decided to build a better self in all aspects.

Seeing Pradeep’s courage, grit and determination to succeed in life, his father Manoj Singh was willing to do anything to help him. When Pradeep said he wanted to take the UPSC exam, Manoj Singh was short of money. So he didn’t even hesitate to sell his house.

After that, Manoj Singh took a job at the petrol pump in Indore in a bid to meet the expenses of his son’s career. After finishing BCom from IIPS Indore, aspiring mind Pradeep went to Delhi for UPSC preparations.

Much to his father’s expectations, the 22-year-old youth came through with flying colours as he cracked the civil services exam. He made his parents happy. When the UPSC result was announced recently, the aspirant secured an AIR 93. Manoj Singh shared the success story to others while speaking to a news agency.

“I work at a petrol pump in Indore. I always wanted to educate my children so that they can do well in life. Pradeep told me he wanted to take the UPSC exam, but I was short of money, so I sold my house. It has been a tough journey,” Manoj Singh, father of Pradeep Singh told ANI.

Manoj also said that it was not that easy for him to educate his children.

“It has been a tough journey. However, I always wanted to educate my children so that they do well in life” he said. His idea for Pradeep was quite clear that he wanted him to do something for the society and the ones who are living in every section of the society.

Overall, 759 candidates have managed to clear the exam. As per the statement released by UPSC, “a total of 759 candidates (577 men and 182 women) have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services like IAS, IPS, IFS etc.”

Out of the top 25 candidates, there are like 15 men and 10 women and all have graduated in subjects like Engineering, Science, Economics, Law, Mathematics, History, Political Science, Public administration and Commerce from top institutions of the country such as IITs, NIT, NLU, BITS Pilani, DU, Mumbai University, Pune University.
