Gautam Gambhir may be BJP candidate in 2019 Lok Sabha Polls: Report

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir who hogged the limelight recently after being conferred the Padma Shri could be roped in by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. There was widespread speculation that Gautam Gambhir might be appointed as the candidate for the New Delhi seat.

If this could be true then Gambhir will join the list of cricketer-turned-politicians. The list has Navjot Singh Sidhu, Kirti Azad and Mohammad Azharuddin.

The reports added that Gambhir might be the next person in line to enter politics and he may contest Lok Sabha elections from the national capital on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. The prolific Indian opener who has contributed a lot for India in cricket has been on the most wanted list of Bharatiya Janata Party.

As per the reports, the saffron party approached Gautam Gambhir to formally join the party to change fortunes in Delhi. It would be quite interesting to see how Gambhir goes about his business in the times to come. We’ll have to wait and see what step he takes next.

It is to be noted that Gambhir has voiced out his opinions and suggestions for the nation on Twitter. The BJP also started working hard with an intent to secure its seven Parliamentary constituencies and win more in the national capital in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls last month.

The BJP is also looking forward to introducing some fresh faces this time in terms of ticket distribution considering the fact that it faces a tough challenge from the opposition than it did in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, when Modi wave was a huge impact for the BJP to secure an “absolute majority” in the Lower House of Parliament.

The Election Commission will announce the schedule for the upcoming general election, which is likely to be spread over 7-8 phases in April-May.
