India & China have done their best to make Earth Green in last 2 decades, says NASA

“China and India account for one-third of the greening but contain only 9 per cent of the planet’s land area covered in vegetation,” said top author Chi Chen of Boston University. “That is a surprising finding, considering the general notion of land degradation in populous countries from overexploitation.”

It should be noted that China alone is responsible for a quarter of the world’s total increase in greenery contribution, despite covering only 6.6 per cent of vegetated land on Earth. The forests occupy (42 per cent) while the croplands at (32 per cent).

As far as India is concerned, 82% of our greenery contribution is from croplands with just about 4.4 per cent contribution from the forests.

This survey comes from a NASA study published recently, according to satellite data analysed by researchers across all parts and sectors of the world. They learnt that India and China are creating a huge difference in replantation efforts and thereby contributing a lot to vegetation.

It is cognisance of the fact that the planet is affected by heavy air pollution and thanks to China for their efforts to reduce land degradation and minimise pollutants in the area.

Don’t forget India! Both the countries multiplied food production by more than 35 per cent since the 2 decades by effectively maximising suitable land usage through productive techniques like crop rotation, fertilizers, and groundwater irrigation.
