Young brother got Govt job so Elder brother sets House on fire, kills 4 family members

Absolutely gutted and jealous over his younger brother getting a government job, a 30-year-old man allegedly set two bedrooms of their house on fire. As the fire spread, it killed four members of the family and then injured four others. This shocking incident took place in West Bengal’s Malda district at Madantola village, police said on Monday.

Instead of congratulating his brother for his success, the man identified as Makhan Mondal allegedly poured petrol in two of the rooms on Sunday night when the family members were asleep.

Makhan’s younger brother- Gobinda (28), elder brother Bikash (32) and Gobinda’s two daughters aged 3 and one-and-a-half years – were burnt to death, according to the police.

The two children charred to death on the spot while Bikash and Gobinda succumbed to nasty injuries in hospital. Bikash’s wife, son and daughter, Gobinda’s wife were admitted to the Malda Medical College and Hospital and are in a critical condition, police added in a statement.

Mother was sleeping in another room and luckily she escaped unhurt, they said. Police added that Makhan, whose wife is now at her parents’ place has escaped.

Cops and family sources said Gedu Mondal who is a worker of the National Volunteer Force (NVF), passed away. Gobinda secured the job on showing sympathy with assistance from Bikash, leaving Makhan annoyed. It was when Makhan decided to commit the sin.
