Good news: Sonia Chahal secures a Silver medal for India, give her a round of applause

After Mary Kom, Sonia Chahal made our country proud! Sonia might not have won gold but that’s okay! She secured a silver medal for India in the 57 kg (featherweight) category. Sonia’s dream debut was impressive until she was put to a halt by the opponent in the final. The 21-year-old was outsmarted by Ornella Gabriele Wahner of Germany.

She lost 1:4 to the opponent in a split decision. Talking about the tough bout, Sonia said, “The bout was very close. I went inside the ring with full preparation but I lost my stamina.”

Having missed out on clinching gold, Sonia assured that she will work even better to bag the top spot in the upcoming championships. “I am happy that I have achieved this stage at such a young age. I will work harder to qualify for the 2020 Championships and win the gold,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sonia’s coach suggested that despite Sonia’s bout was well and good, it was just “not her day.”
