Big salute- Police officer jumps into river and saves a dying man- gets promotion and reward

In yet another extraordinary tale of bravery, a police officer risked his own life only to rescue a man from drowning in the Yamuna canal in Faridabad. The cop set an example for working beyond the call of duty and much to his intelligence, he was well able to save the person at the right place and at the right time.

Haryana cop on Monday announced the promotion for the hero. Lukman Khan was also given an appreciation letter and Rs.5,000 reward for pulling off a spectacular job in saving a man’s life. To add the fact that the constable Khan had quickly taken off his uniform and jumped in the canal after coming to know that crowd screaming to save the man.

“Constable Lukman Khan, who was part of the Crime Branch team, took off his uniform and jumped into the canal and saved the man,” the police said in a statement in Gurgaon.

“Constable Khan will be soon awarded with a cash prize and an appreciation letter,” the officer said, quoting Gurugram’s Commissioner of Police KK Rao.

The rescued person, identified as Mangal Singh is a resident of Sihi village in Faridabad. Police are currently investigating as to how Mangal Singh fell into the canal.

“Khan will also be publicly honoured at the Independence Day function in Gurugram,” Police Department PRO Subhash Boken told IANS.
