Emotional Father fills more than 500 potholes as his beloved son died because of it

Potholes accidents can be ‘deadly’. You never know what would happen when you bump into it accidentally. Deaths due to ‘potholes’ is frightening the people who travel on roads in India. In fact, pothole deaths sparked a new controversy on inefficiency and corruption among municipal and road-owning authorities.

Dadarao Bilhore who is a Mumbai resident has filled up 556 potholes in the city after his 16-year-old son died because of a pothole on a road 3 years back. According to various reports, his son identified as Prakash passed away on July 28, 2015 after his bike accidentally fell into a deep pothole on rainwater clogged Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) in the city.

After his death, Bilhore decided to fix the problems on road all by himself. So, he started filling up potholes in a bid to counter such accidents. Speaking to agencies regarding this, Bilhore said, “I don’t want people to face the same fate as my son, Prakash. I will keep working till India becomes pothole-free. Our nation has a huge population. If even one lakh people start filling potholes, India will become pothole-free.”

Giving his views about the conflict between Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) over taking the responsibility of sorting out the woes, Bilhore said, “If people start filling the potholes, they will be inspired to take up the work and solve the problem.”

It is learnt that around 6 persons died in and around the city owing to deep potholes this monsoon season. Knowing the seriousness of this issue in Mumbai, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers protested against the persistent issue of potholes-related deaths in the state earlier this month.
