President of Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi is celebrating his birthday today as he turns 48. India Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday took to his official Twitter handle to convey his birthday wishes to Rahul Gandhi.

PM Modi wished Rahul Gandhi ‘long and healthy life’. The caption read, “Birthday greetings to Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi. I pray for his long and healthy life.” However, the congress President is yet to respond to PM Modi’s greetings.

Rahul Gandhi took charge as the president of the Indian National Congress in December 2017. So, this is Rahul Gandhi’s first birthday after taking over as his party’s president. Congress workers were pleased as punch on this day and are celebrating the occasion in a grand fashion.

Hundreds of Congress supporters assembled outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi early on Tuesday. The supporters made the day so special that they put Large posters of Rahul Gandhi outside the Congress office followed by distribution of sweets by the party workers.

Rahul Gandhi announced his arrival in politics in 2004 and successfully competed the general elections held that year from Amethi, a seat that was previously held by his father; he won again from the constituency in 2009 and 2014. Rahul Gandhi was highly praised for his greater involvement in party politics and national government.

He was elected Congress Vice-President in 2013, having plied his trade as the General Secretary earlier. Gandhi steered Congress’ campaign in the 2014 Indian general elections. Gandhi is a Trustee of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation & Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust.
