Cobbler-teenager defied the odds to score 465 without going to school

Sanjay Rabidas’ life has been laden with difficulties but he never gave up. He broke the shackles to write a success story for himself. He hails from Konua Madhyampara village under Olionda gram panchayet in Chanchal I block. He comes from a poor family and never had any chance to be a regular to the school like other students. But still, the 16-year-old managed to pull off 465 marks with personal effort.

That sums up the essential Sanjay Rabidas for you! He earned ample appreciations from all snippets of his circle. Sanjay scored 72 in Bengali, 61 in English, 56 in Mathematics, 50 in Physical Science, 68 in Life Science, 74 in History and 84 in Geography.

Sanjay’s father passed away 13 years ago due to illness. So, Kalyani Rabidas herself works as maid to take care of Sanjay. The latter works as a cobbler to support the family. “Sanjay is my only son. His father Jagadish Rabidas died 13 years ago out of serious illness. My elder son works as a migrant labourer. Sanjay works as a cobbler to support our family,” said Kalyani Rabidas.

Sanjay goes to school once in a blue moon as he had to work hard most of the days to earn money. According to Kalyani, Sanjay single-handledly did everything to suceed in life. “I could not afford a private tutor for him. He couldn’t be regular to school too as he had to work hard most of the days to earn few bucks. It’s his single handed success and all credit goes to him,” she said.

Raja Chowdhury, headmaster of Konua Bhabanipur high school wherefrom Sanjay appeared in Madhyamik Pariksha said, “He has made us proud. We shall take care of his studies.”

Sanjay, the ever so successful student, is however confident of a bright future. “We, the poor have nothing except the determination to success and the blessings from the Almighty. I must help my family get rid of poverty with my studies,” he told EOIC.
