In shocking news, Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee aged 93, was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Monday. Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and BJP chief Amit Shah visited Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the hospital.

The doctors learnt that the former PM has been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and was under “examination and management”, the hospital said. According to the recent statement given by the hospital, Atal Bihari Vajpayee is stable.

The team of doctors including nephrologist, Dr Soumita Bagchi and a gastroenterologist, Dr Pramod Garg are under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director at AIIMS are performing tests.

“He is stable. A team of doctors under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS, are conducting tests,” the hospital said in a press release. The recent sources claim that there was a risk of health emergency developing.

According to health bulletin released Monday, the hospital said Vajpayee has been diagnosed with “a urinary tract infection for which appropriate treatment has been closely monitored and treated by a team of doctors”.

“PM @narendramodi visited former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at AIIMS today. He was at AIIMS for about 50 minutes…The Prime Minister interacted with family members of Shri Vajpayee. He also spoke to doctors and enquired about the health of Shri Vajpayee,” the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted.

It is learnt that Rahul Gandhi was among the first one to visit Vajpayee in the afternoon. Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s former colleagues, senior BJP leaders such as LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, home minister Rajnath Singh and Nadda also visited him at the hospital.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a veteran BJP leader, was India’s Prime Minister thrice – shortly in 1996, and for two terms between 1998 and 2004. He is a renowned lawmaker. He was conferred the title of India’s Best Parliamentarian’ in 1994. In 2015, he hogged the limelight as he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
