Born without hands, Schoolgirl secures First Division in Class 10 Exams

You don’t need a magic wand to become successful in life. All that you need is the willingness to succeed, the will to do things, the ability to move on with grit and determination, hard work and perseverance to try even in tough times.

If you have all the qualities, you can do accomplish your goal. Jebin Kousar is in the spotlight for getting the First Division in Class 10 exams, the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) declared the HSLC results on Friday.

The 17-year-old was born without hands but that didn’t stop her from achieving her dreams and aspirations. Jebin who is a student of Murajhar HS School in Hojai. She wrote the HSLC 2018 examination with her feet and scored first division marks.

She is a proud student of Gyan Jyoti Academy, a private school in Assam’s Hojai district. Apart from academics, she is more into drawing, something that she has always loved. She wants to jet off to Mumbai, a place where she read about in her Geography book.

The school Principal Afsana Begum Choudhary was pleased to know that her school students have secured the First Division after 17 years. She congratulated Jebin Kousar and other students for their success. Begum Choudhary said that Jebin’s classmates and teachers have always helped Jebin since the first year of school. Last but not the least, the school principal said that they will always support Jebin in this journey.

“Our school has scored the First Division after 17 years. We are so proud of Jebin Kousar and the other students. We’ve never let her feel like she was different. Her classmates and teachers have helped her since kindergarten and continue to do so even now. We will always be with her in this journey,” said Principal Afsana Begum Choudhury.

After becoming a role model for the children, the school authorities have printed Jebin’s picture on the back cover of all student identity cards. The picture shows that the Jebin Kousar appearing for an exam holding the pen with her feet.

Jebin Kousar’s parents were pumped up after coming to know that their daughter scoring above 60% in the exam. Talking about Jebin’s family background, her father Abdul Jabbar drives a hired auto, while her mother is a homemaker. She is the eldest of six daughters living in a small house in Murajhar, which is 180 km away from Guwahati.

Jebin’s family makes a monthly income of Rs.5000. Murajhar Guidance Junior Trust has done a remarkable job to bear Jebin’s education costs till Class 12.

“I am very happy for her. I raised my daughter with much difficulty. With one hand I used to cook and feed her with the other. She never took tuitions. In fact, her father was only expecting the Second Division,” Fateha Begum, Jebin’s mother adds.

The nearby people at Murajhar say Jebin is a blessing to her parents. She manages day-to-day tasks with her feet. From lifting the school bag to holding a utensil, she does it all by herself. She decided to enrol in the Arts stream at Mariam Ajmal College in Hojai. According to Jebin, she wants to be a school teacher.
