Dangal- the top Non- Hollywood foreign film in China grossed over 800 crores

  • Dangal, a biographical sports drama film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari which released in India in December 2016, based on real story of Phogat sisters and produced by Walt Disney pictures, Aamir khan Productions and UTV Motion pictures is giving an outstanding hit on Chinese Box Office.
  • Dangal box office collections have been tracked routinely since it has begun its astounding run in China. There are still no signs of deceleration in its popularity. This is highest making Indian film in China and is highest grossing non-Hollywood/Non- Chinese movie in China- which is practically astonishing.

  • In China, this wrestling movie based on Drama and Entertainment set up a gigantic record of Rs 72.6 crores in its fourth weekend, whereas in total till the 24th day, it has compiled 888.25 crores which is huge as a record for any other movie in foreign country. This has got Dangal’s gross abutting to that of famous Bahubali 2. It has collected Rs 385 crores in India which is not even half of its gross collection at the Chinese box office. Dangal got released on 4K screens in home country India and 1K screens in foreign countries, in 2016, whereas in China, it opened across 9K screens, a record-breaking number.
  • Amir Khan got followers on Sina Weibo (the Chinese Twitter) far more than that of Narendra Modi. Dangal’s success is visible with its popularity in China, where it has been positioned to 35th position on the top-earners list. It got released in China on May 5 as Shuai Jiao Baba, which signifies “Let’s Wrestle, Dad”, it had a screen share of 13.3 per cent with 30,000 screenings.

  • Dangal beat the record held by 2016 Japanese film “Your Name” for highest grossing foreign- language non- Hollywood film in China and is now number 1, all time highest earning Indian movie overseas box office.
