Narendra Modi sends his best wishes to the new President of France, Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Macron has become the youngest president elect of France after he had defeated his rival Marine Le Pen in an intense and hard fought battle. Though many pipped Le Pen to go all the way, Emmanuel Macron, the 38 year old managed to defy the odds and won the battle.

By securing between 65 per cent and 66.1 per cent of the vote compared to between 33.9 per cent and 35 per cent that went to Le Pen, Macron is the youngest ever President of the country and he will be succeeding Francois Hollande, who has been in power from 2012 to 2017.

All the big names across the world came together to wish Macron all the best for his new responsibility and our Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first. His tweet read, “Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron for an emphatic victory in the French Presidential election. I look forward to working closely with [him] to further strengthen India-France ties.”

France have had a shambolic couple of years with few terror attacks absolutely shaking the country. Apart from that, the new President will have a lot of other issues to work on like cutting state spending, easing labor laws, boosting education in deprived areas and extending new protections to the self-employed.

Emmanuel Macron also received congratulatory messages from some other big names in the world like Teresa May, Prime Minister of Britain, Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America and German-chancellor Angela Merkel.

Donald Trump’s tweet read, “Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his big win today as the next President of France. I look very much forward to working with him.”

“I warmly congratulate @EmmanuelMacron on his success and look forward to working with him on a wide range of shared priorities” said Teresa May.

“Congratulations Emmanuel Macron. Your victory is a victory for a strong united Europe and for the Franco-German friendship,” stated an official press release from the German government’s media consultant.
